I also added some more trees to the ridge behind the Waterbury freight house and feed mill. We arrived in town to catch the sugar maples at their peak - truly "electric maples" - they are the brightest on the layout. (And yes, I know the freight house needs a roof before the winter…!)

Grassing things up
Added about eight linear feet of static grass to the area north of Williams Creek Bridge. I decided the "almost straw" grass colors looked pretty good, but it needed a little something to give it a bunch in a couple of spots - the answer was some bright red Sumac by the embankment. Next step - fence line and telegraph poles. I might add an old stone fence in the woods, almost overgrown by brush, but that will have to wait until after the Cocoa Beach meet.

Nice touch with the sumac. Too bad I no longer have those etchings.
Very nicely done. And I agree with Bernie-- nice touch with the sumac.
The scene looks terrific and is really coming together nicely. I like the various textures and tones thoughout the scene. It looks fantastic.

I find I get the most satisfactiuon these days by "grassing up" areas. Quickly brings a scene to life even without additional detailing or sceneic elements. Looks great Marty!!
Mike, Yes, I agree - it really completes the scene!
I have a sheet or two left. Some of the other New England modelers were lamenting the fact that the etched brass sumac wasn't available - of course they'd like it in something with a smaller leaf a little closer to HO scale. Any chance of a re-issue if you had committed orders?
Thanks to all for the kind comments. Scene is starting to come together - desperately needs some vertical elements between the fascia and the tree line - telegraph poles and some fence posts, things like that.
A train would be nice also....
Looks really nice!!!
Terrific, Marty, it's right out of a New England calendar scene!
This looks really good! I am envious. Want to come to NC for a trip? Ha!
Thanks Dave!
Sure, we love North Carolina!
Although it hasn't quite beaten out the "Holy City," (Charleston, SC) Asheville remains firmly on the "maybe" list of possibilities for 'retirement…so you never know!
See you in Portland?
